Sakakura Heritage Park (Sakakura Archaeological Site)
坂倉遺跡公園さかくらいせきこうえん
The Sakakura Site is the remains of an Early Jomon settlement, roughly 8,000 years old, preserved on a low hill in Taki, Mie Prefecture. Designated a Mie Prefectural Historic Site in 1975, about 1,011 square meters are now maintained as Sakakura Heritage Park. Excavations confirmed 19 dwelling-like pits and hearth features—and among them a hearth with a striking "U-shaped structure with a ceiling component," a form rare even on a national scale. The site is also the first place in Mie Prefecture where impressed (oshigatamon) pottery was unearthed, and that pottery has become one of the standard reference materials for the chronology of Early Jomon ceramics. Quietly tucked just a five-minute walk from JR Taki Station, it pairs genuine archaeological rarity with unusual ease of access.
