Okuhida Bear Park
奥飛騨クマ牧場おくひだくまぼくじょう
A wildlife-viewing facility in the Okuhida Onsenkyo hot-spring resort area (Shin-Hirayuonsen district) that houses more than one hundred Ussuri brown bears (Ursus arctos lasiotus) and Asiatic black bears (Ursus thibetanus) in year-round captivity. The facility is unusual in that it maintains bears through winter without artificial hibernation, enabling observation across all seasons. Cub-petting and feeding experiences are the primary visitor attractions. Located at approximately 1,000 m elevation with views toward the Hotaka range of the Northern Alps, the park has served as a complement to the surrounding hot-spring resort economy since its establishment.
