Oni no Shitaburui (Devil's Tongue-Trembling Gorge)
鬼の舌震おにのしたぶるい
An approximately two-kilometre V-shaped gorge formed by the prolonged erosion of the Oumagi River — a tributary of the Hii River — through a zone of biotite granite. Designated a National Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument on 8 April 1927 (official name: Onishitaburi), the gorge features a prominent suspension bridge known as the 'Shitaburui Love Bridge' (height 45 m, length 160 m) spanning the gorge and offering an aerial experience of the landscape. The gorge floor is studded with pothole formations (oketsus) — circular depressions bored into the granite by the rapid current. A barrier-free hiking path was completed in 2013, running from Une Parking to Shimotakao Parking and accessible throughout by wheelchair.
