B-Grade Chaos
Takanabe Daishi
高鍋大師たかなべだいし
Near the Mochida burial mound cluster stands a hill covered in some 750 syncretic stone images, carved single-handedly by the late Iwaoka Yasukichi from his sixties onward. Miyazaki Kankō Navi explains that he began the work in 1933 to console the spirits of the ancients buried in the looted tombs. Naïve, strongly deformed forms meet a motive of memorial — a powerfully Bizarre Japan-grade folk and outsider-art site, fit for the national edition.
