Chinpin Center (Curiosity Castle)

珍品センター(珍品城)ちんぴんせんたー

Somewhere along the road near Yoro, a castle suddenly appears — not a real castle, but a building topped by two golden shachihoko (mythical carp-tigers) in the style of Nagoya Castle's famous roof ornaments, encasing a rambling labyrinth of antiques, folk crafts, military paraphernalia, ceramics, old furniture, and the kind of objects that defy classification. The Chinpin Center, colloquially known as "Chinpin Castle," operates on the belief that every object has intrinsic worth and that the right buyer is somewhere in the world, given sufficient accumulation. The interior is an organized chaos that rewards slow exploration: old woodblock prints lean against lacquered tansu chests, rusted farm implements hang above porcelain tea sets, and the proprietor — usually present — dispenses commentary that blurs the line between sales pitch and performance art. Its location adjacent to the Yoro Tenmei Aichi (Reversible Destiny Lofts) makes it the perfect cooldown stop after a morning of falling over in the name of art. Visiting both in sequence is the de facto "Yoro oddity circuit" and one of the most absurdly satisfying half-days in the Tōkai region.
