D A T E2026-07-12
An insect-sending rite of the inland Ise Plain transmitted in Hadame-chō, Matsusaka City, Mie, in July. Matsusaka City Designated Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Known as 'Oiyare,' the rite uses massive torches of bound rapeseed stalks and drum dancing as villagers parade through paddies to drive pests beyond the hamlet. Starting from Tajikarao Shrine, the procession unfolds from dusk into night and is one of the few surviving insect-sending rites in the Ise Plain.
