蛸舞式神事たこまいしきしんじ
D A T E2026-10-18
An autumn rite held each October at Fukuoka Shrine in Hoki Town, Tottori Prefecture. Parishioners in fundoshi loincloths raise high a straw octopus and dance to kagura music; finally a principal participant clings to a round beam of the shrine hall and is rotated by many others from below. A rite without parallel elsewhere. Designated as a Tottori Prefecturally Designated Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
