Shiraishi Odori
白石踊しらいしおどり
D A T E2026-08-13 — 2026-08-16
A Bon dance practiced on Shiraishi Island in the Seto Inland Sea. Said to have originated as a memorial for those killed in the 1183 Battle of Mizushima between the Genji and Heike clans, it is extraordinary in that more than ten distinct dances are performed simultaneously to the same drum beat and song. It is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property and a component element of the UNESCO ICH 'Furyu-odori' inscription.
