Rokugo no Kamakura
六郷のカマクラろくごうのかまくら
D A T E2026-02-11 — 2026-02-15
A Little New Year cycle of fire rites and year-divination in the Rokugo district of Misato, Akita, transmitted for more than 700 years. Said to derive from a court ritual of the Kamakura period, it includes the writing and burning of 'tempitsu' calligraphic strips, bamboo-striking duels known locally as 'kamakura', and bird-driving rites. It is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property and represents the original folk form of the Little New Year rite, distinct from the now-touristic snow-hut 'kamakura' of Yokote.
