Aenokoto of Oku-Noto
奥能登のあえのことおくのとのあえのこと
D A T E2026-12-05 — 2027-02-09
A household-level agrarian ritual practiced in four Oku-Noto municipalities. On December 5th the unseen god of the rice field is welcomed into the home, offered a bath and a formal meal, then sent back to the fields on February 9th. The head of each household speaks to the invisible deity alone — an exceptionally distinctive farming rite. It is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property (1976) and is also inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in its own right.
