Oniyo Fire Festival at Daizenji Tamataregu Shrine
大善寺玉垂宮の鬼夜だいぜんじたまたれぐうのおによ

Held every January 7th at Daizenji Tamataregu Shrine in Kurume, Fukuoka, this fire ritual features six giant torches roughly 13 meters long and 1.2 tonnes in weight, swung within the shrine grounds by teams of men bathed in sparks. With a tradition said to span more than 1,600 years, it is counted among Japan's three great fire festivals and is designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.
