Mori no Shizuku Park (Memorial Park for the 1971 Shizukuishi Mid-Air Collision)
森のしずく公園(旧・慰霊の森)もりのしずくこうえん(きゅう・いれいのもり)
This memorial facility was established at the primary crash site of the July 30, 1971 mid-air collision over Shizukuishi, Iwate Prefecture, in which All Nippon Airways Flight 58 — a Boeing 727 — collided with a Japan Air Self-Defense Force training aircraft at approximately 8,500 m altitude, disintegrating in flight and killing all 162 people aboard. A memorial stele was completed in 1972, followed by a memorial hall and an Aviation Safety Prayer Tower in 1975; memorial services were held annually through the thirty-third anniversary observance in 2003. Following major renovation works in 2019, the site was renamed Mori no Shizuku Park (Forest Droplet Park) in May 2020. The young commemorative forest planted after the accident now stands as a living record of Japan's aviation safety history.
