Hoshuzan Daikannon-ji (Golden Daikannon & Karaoke Kannon)
寶珠山大観音寺(純金大観音・カラオケ観音)ほうしゅざんだいかんのんじ(じゅんきんだいかんのん・からおけかんのん)
A Shingon Buddhist temple founded in 1982 in front of Kintetsu Sakakibara-Onsenguchi Station in Tsu City. Its centerpiece is a 33-meter Golden Daikannon statue covered with approximately 1 ton of gold leaf, with many additional Buddhist images inside and out. The grounds also feature 'Manbai-gama,' said to be the world's largest cauldron and based on the Kobo Daishi legend of one grain of rice multiplying ten-thousand-fold; 'Karaoke Kannon,' a kannon dedicated to singers and microphone professionals; and walking grounds replicating the Shikoku 88-Temple and 100-Kannon pilgrimages. The site is operated jointly with the adjacent Louvre Sculpture Museum (spot-154), forming an unusually theme-park-like religious complex.
