Miyamado Inari Shrine (Thousand Foxes & Petrochemical Skyline)

海山道稲荷神社(千体狐とコンビナート)みやまどいなりじんじゃ(せんたいきつねとこんびなーと)

A shrine in Miyamadocho, Yokkaichi City. The auxiliary 'Miyamado Kaiun Inari Shrine' on the grounds is actually larger than the main hall; its precincts are packed with hundreds of fox statues donated from across Japan, producing an overwhelming visual density. Behind the shrine rise the chimneys of the Yokkaichi petrochemical complex, and in a single frame, an old fox-cult shrine and postwar heavy industry coexist — a peculiarly Mie 'otherworldly' landscape. Excellent photography access right in front of Kintetsu Miyamado Station. Locally nicknamed 'Miyamado-san.'
