Gofuku-ji Temple — Hell-Tour Corridor

牛伏寺 地獄めぐり回廊ごふくじ じごくめぐりかいろう

A 'hell-tour' corridor inside the ancient temple of Gofuku-ji in Uchida, Matsumoto. Local reporting describes a corridor — completed in 2022 — that uses wooden images handed down for some 200 years to depict the hells, with figures such as Datsue-ba (the old woman who strips the dead) and the hell wardens lined up along a passage beside the Nio gate. Because the temple's own pages give the corridor only sparse coverage, opening hours and photography conditions should be confirmed again before any visit.
