Reigan-ji Temple — Strange Rocks
霊巌寺の奇岩れいがんじのきがん
Within the precincts of Reigan-ji in Kuroki-machi, Yame, stand a prefecturally designated cluster of strange rocks. The city's official page names individual stones — Zazen-iwa (Meditation Rock), Onna-iwa (Woman Rock), Nakodo-iwa (Matchmaker Rock), Buppo-iwa, Tsurugi-iwa (Sword Rock), Inu-iwa (Dog Rock), Neko-iwa (Cat Rock) — and notes that the Otoko-iwa (Man Rock), over 12 m tall, is said to be among the largest in Japan. Temple, Shugendo ascetic associations, named formations, and sexual symbolism overlap in a strong nature-faith candidate without a museum framing.
