Utari Shrine Wind-Pacifying Rite (Kaza-matsuri)
菟足神社の風祭りうたりじんじゃのかざまつり
D A T E2026-04-11 — 2026-04-12
A spring wind-pacifying and agricultural rite at Utari Shrine, an Engishiki-listed shrine of Mikawa Province in Toyokawa City, Aichi. Toyokawa City Designated Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Said to descend from the ancient Mikawa wind-rite recorded in the Heian-period tale collection Konjaku Monogatari-shū, it still preserves a hidden 'sparrow offering' (jakkengū) structure, praying for protection from wind damage and a bountiful harvest. It is studied as a leading example of an archaic wind-rite.
